In this class we will focus on, one hand, developing our skills in dialogue and on the other, learn how to write stories that can work without dialogue either. Yes there are plenty out there. We will read works by Hemingway, Lorrie Moore, and others to see how they use these techniques. Offered online.
Course Outline
This course will be a workshop-style class where students bring in work to be workshopped by the group. Focus of the course is to develop a) a natural, unforced way to use dialogue in stories/novels and on the other hand also learn techniques where no dialogue can work as well. Students don’t have to do both, necessarily, but the course is open to those who would like to explore the role of dialogue or non dialogue in writing.
