Short Story: The Final Draft with Buku Sarkar

In this class we will workshop our stories with a focus on finishing a final draft or getting close to it so that it is almost ready to send out to magazines. Emphasis during workshop will be on the craft of short story: Character, dialogue, point of view as well as a component on how and where to send the final draft.

Course Outline

Students will workshop their stories at least twice each with the goal to get it close to submitting to magazines. Discussion on how and where to send stories. Assigned stories to read and discuss (to be provided).

    Buku Sarkar is a fiction writer and photographer based in New York. Her first book has just been published in 2023, a collection of short stories titled Not Quite A Disaster After All. She has written for various magazines including NYRB, ZYZZYVA, NYTimes, Sewanee Review, Threepenny Review, and received the best short story of the year award from Sewannee Review. Her photography, has been shown at ICP, Art Basel Miami to name a few.
