The Center gives out three awards annually as part of its programming, honoring both early-career fiction writers through our First Novel Prize and Emerging Writers Fellowship, and distinguished editors and agents in the field with our Maxwell E. Perkins Award. The Center also works with partners in Italy to give out the Bridge Book Award.
The First Novel Prize
The First Novel Prize is awarded to the best debut novel of the year. The winner receives a $10,000 prize and each finalist receives $1,000. The 2019 winner is De’Shawn Charles Winslow.
NYC Emerging Writers Fellowship
Every year nine New York City-based emerging writers receive a grant that includes $5,000; space and time to write in our writers studio; opportunities to meet agents; and more.
Maxwell E. Perkins Award
This Award honors an editor, publisher, or agent who over the course of their career has discovered, nurtured, and championed writers of fiction. This award is dedicated to Maxwell Perkins in celebration of his legacy as one of the country’s most important editors.
