What/When/Where/Why/How…
Nope, there’s no Who, because that is you; the writer who aspires to tell a long-form story. But maybe you aren’t sure what the story should be. Perhaps you have scraps, notions, even a chapter or two of prose—but you aren’t sure how to keep going, how to put the pieces together, or why your novel is relevant in a world that can feel oversaturated with stories.
This two-day intensive will help you answer these quandaries. Through generative writing exercises, we will isolate what your story will be (yes, that means outlining!); discover if and how you are uniquely positioned to tell this story; identify why this story matters; and determine what effect this story may have on your reader as well as you.
We’ll also do a forensic accounting of our lives outside of writing in order to make a realistic plan for the long haul. To lean on the metaphor of novel writing as a long-distance marathon (run over months and years), think of joining this weekend intensive as tying on your new pair of shoes, taking a lesson in stretching fundamentals, and mapping out the route you will one day conquer. Ready? Let’s write.
This course is held online via Zoom.
