Whether you are looking for a hidden civilization at the bottom of the ocean or searching for life in outer space, this workshop will be your compass through an exciting adventure. Over four days, we will create detailed scenarios that have never been imagined before and craft the braver, most capable explorer for the task. Each day, we’ll focus on a different aspect of the writer’s job – plotting, drafting, editing, and sharing our work – discovering what techniques best fit our writing style. Each project will be tailored to the author’s interests and curiosity, including length and format within the Adventure genre. Participants who are visual thinkers are encouraged to add illustrations to their work, including treasure maps, fauna and flora details, or records of unknown alphabets. Their stories can feature familiar characters explorers have already written about or follow one of the suggested character profiles and story prompts. Finally, students can also collaborate with fellow writers in the group as a scavenging team, combining ideas and different creative processes, or brave their journey solo experimenting with new skills and writing challenges.

Designed for young writers, ages 9-12.
Capacity: 12

Required workshop materials: Zoom access and preferred writing supplies (ex: pencil/pen and paper, MS Word, or any online document editing software, like Google Docs).

Note: Please include the following information about the student taking the course in the “Notes” field at checkout: student’s name, grade level, and email address.
