This course will delve into the ways magical realism can help us navigate the malaise and mundane. And yet, magic is not only used for spectacle. These surreal and fantastical moments can also help our writing traverse difficult topics such as depression, disconnection, and loss. In this course, we will solely look at how magical realism helps us transform our truths on the page.

Alcy Leyva
Alcy Leyva is a Bronx-born multi-genre writer whose first two books in the Shades of Hell series, And Then There Were Crows and And Then There Were Dragons, were published by Black Spot Books. His short stories have appeared in the award-winning anthologies A Midnight Clear and Dead of Winter. He is currently working on a short story collection, a YA fantasy book, and a perfect recipe for lasagna.
