Six Sessions Thursdays, 6:00 pm EDT - 7:30 pm EDT September 28, 2023 to January 4, 2024
The Center for Fiction
The ‘With Books’ option includes all titles required for this group at a 10% discount from our Bookstore.
Building on the previous Dickens courses (not a prerequisite!), we will dive into the commonly taught (and perhaps as commonly forgotten) Great Expectations. After this we will dive into The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. These Victorian writers will take us from southern to northern England, with the influences and economics of the global empire a constant driving force in the background. Misery, mystery, and manufacturing.
This conversation-driven course will provide occasional supplemental material from the instructor. Those in the group should expect a more seminar-like dialogue.
