“What am I doing here?” asks the unnamed narrator in Natasha Brown’s Assembly. According to Guardian critic Holly Williams, this provocative debut novella “says more about Britain’s colonial legacy and what it’s like trying to exist within that as a black British woman than most could achieve with three times the space.” In our group discussion, we will consider the story’s detailed vignettes and unfolding themes of class, race, and culture.
