This two-week poetry intensive will empower young writers in the development of their craft. Through generative exercises, workshops, and one-on-one sessions, students will draft, revise, and polish a collection of poems. We will read and write deeply—studying a variety of poetic techniques, experimenting with language and form, and developing transferable skills in critical thinking, creative expression, and collaboration. Students will cultivate a sustainable writing practice, discover their poetic voice, and shape a body of work. Together we will write through the 2020 experience and find relevant ways to connect with audiences through publication and performance practices.
Special Guest:
In partnership with Urban Word, we are pleased to welcome National Youth Poet Laureate Meera Dasgupta as a guest speaker for the July 21st meeting of this course! She will read from her work and discuss what it means to be a young poet at this critical moment in history.
This course will take place online via Zoom. Participants will receive instructions for access prior to the first meeting.
