While setting is one of the basic elements of a novel, great writers raise that requirement to another level, allowing readers to feel immersed in a place that doesn’t exist (Oz! Wonderland!) or that they haven’t visited (England 1535, Florida 1968).
Join us as we read and discuss novels known for their sense of place, including Good Morning, Midnight (Paris, 1930s) by Jean Rhys, Like Water for Chocolate (Mexico, 1900s) by Laura Esquivel, The Joy Luck Club (China-San Francisco, 20th century) by Amy Tan, and The English Major (the American West, 2000s) by Jim Harrison.
This group will take place online via Zoom. Participants will receive instructions for access prior to the first session.
