Health and Safety Protocols

Thank you for visiting The Center for Fiction! We have undertaken a number of measures to keep visitors safe, including upgraded building-wide ventilation systems with MERV 15 filters and rigorous cleaning and sanitation protocols throughout the building.

The use of face masks is recommended throughout the building, but not required. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home. If you test positive for COVID-19 after visiting The Center for Fiction, we ask that you email [email protected] to let us know so that we can contact trace and inform others of possible exposure.

Service animals are welcome at The Center for Fiction.

Bookstore and Café & Bar

The use of face masks is recommended, but not required. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the Bookstore. Café & Bar patrons may eat and drink in the auditorium. Outside food and drink are not permitted.


Second-Floor Member Spaces

Our member spaces are open during the following hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 11am–8pm
  • Friday: 11am–5pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 12–5pm

You will need to present your member card for access. If you are unsure of your membership status, please email [email protected] to verify your membership or for information on how to renew.

People under the age of 12 are not permitted in the second-floor member spaces. Visitors between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult while upstairs.

Members are permitted to eat and drink items from the Café & Bar in our second-floor member spaces. Outside food and drink are not permitted.


The Writers Studio

Entry into the building before 11am and after 8pm requires the use of your keycard. Access to the Studio requires a reservation through Skedda, an online booking system. You will be asked to choose a workspace and to specify a time period. Reservations cannot be made more than one week in advance. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you please stay home. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please email [email protected] and [email protected] to let us know so we can contact trace and inform other Studio members of exposure.

The use of face masks is recommended, but not required. Disinfectant wipes are provided. Additionally, standing hand sanitizer dispensers have been placed at various locations throughout the building. Members are encouraged to wipe down their work space before and after use.

Eating and drinking are allowed in the Writers Studio within certain limitations—please refer to current signage and/or ask our staff for details. Writers Studio members may have outside food and drink in the Clarissa Dalloway Room and on our second-floor outdoor Terrace.
