Teachers and Principals Share Their Appreciation for Books for NYC Schools book donations and for KidsRead programs
Thank you cards written by students from the Young Women’s Leadership School for Carol Weston's KidsRead event.
"Thank you for your donation of 4 boxes of books. We are very pleased to have them for Reach Out and Read, our pediatric literacy program.
We especially appreciate your donation of books for young adults. We totally depend on donations like yours to be able to give books to the older children. We have made the adult books available for the parents. Unfortunately, the waiting time tends to be long in our clinic. The parents are so appreciative to have something to read while they wait. They are even happier when they find out that they can keep the books.
Connections with organizations like yours are important to ROR's future. Your donation helps us to continue to promote literacy and provide parents with the materials they need to make books a part of their children's lives. We have a great sense of accomplishment in the positive impact the program has made in the lives of children. Thank you again for your support!"

"I thank you for generously supporting Union Settlement Association's efforts to bring opportunity to the East Harlem community. Your contribution of roughly one hundred children's books is greatly appreciated. They have been given to children ages 6-9 in our intergenerational tutoring program to appreciate their efforts and support summer reading. I also know that The Center for Fiction has matched Union Settlement with a pro bono architect who is helping us to plan renovations for the Washington Community Center Children's Library. Your assistance recruiting volunteers to shelve books before the opening of our new library is also greatly appreciated. I am very pleased that our organizations have been brought together and thank you for your efforts to date and going forward.
As we are sure you are aware, the current economic downturn has had a disproportionately adverse impact on underserved communities like East Harlem. As we face growing demand for our services, your support is especially important to us and our community. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and especially the families we serve, thank you for your contribution."

"On behalf of the children and families The New York Foundling provides services to, I want to take this opportunity to thank you so much for your incredible donation of nine boxes of children's books.
Thousands of children and families depend on us today. Through our preventive, supportive, education and placement services, The New York Foundling aims to strengthen the lives of children and families. We are very thankful for your kindness as we forge ahead to develop and maintain family and preventive services that save and enhance young lives in our community. With your help we keep our programs strong despite the struggle with a fragile economy and the threat of significant cuts in general support. Never has philanthropy meant more."

"On behalf of our scholars at Haven Academy which The New York Foundling sponsors, I want to take this opportunity to thank you so much for hosting a magical Meet & Greet the author of Wonder, R. J. Palacio for our two third grade classes. I also want to thank you for arranging to have the publisher send to each of the scholars a copy of the book.
Thank you again for your support. Together we will light the future paths for our community's most vulnerable children and families."

"We received the two boxes of books you donated to our program. I immediately enlisted the help of our parents in opening and choosing books to add to our lending library. Teachers were able to select books to add to their classroom libraries and parents had the opportunity to take some books home to their children and family. We still have more left over that we can give to the children as they wait to be picked up.
We are so grateful for your generosity in sending us the books; it brought joy and happiness to those that have a love for books, and a smile to a child's face when they received a book to take home. When a prospective parent brings their child to enroll them, they feel pleased that their son/daughter can take a book home with them.
If you have time, it would be our pleasure to have you visit our program. Thank you once again, wholeheartedly and with much appreciation for providing the books to our program and to the children and families that we serve."

"We've received 2 more boxes! This is terrific! Students are making selections to establish libraries of their own AND we are placing books in classrooms to add to their current collections. We are placing the balance in our school library. I'll send you pics and notes of appreciation. Thanks so very much for including our students in this book-giveaway!
Thanks so much! The books have been greatly appreciated. So far, students have enjoyed the additions to our libraries, both in the classroom and our developing school library.
