Books for NYC Schools

The Center for Fiction is collecting book donations for The Academy for Young Writers in Brooklyn. The school opened its doors in the fall of 2006 and graduated its first class in 2010. The school uses writing across all areas of the curriculum as a tool for generating comprehension and retaining knowledge. While AFYW celebrates creative writing, its name derives from the belief that all forms of writing help a person to become better educated and more expressive. Research shows that the only intervention that provides lasting benefits to high school readers is spending more time reading. As a result, classroom libraries at the school need to be continuously expanded and replenished. AFYW is asking for the following books for their students. You can purchase copies through our website or send or bring your donation to us.
