Sleepless Nights: The Music of Daniel Felsenfeld
Thursday June 25, 2015
Sleepless Nights, the music of Daniel Felsenfeld, is a collection of collaborations between a single composer and some of the most accomplished and varied contemporary authors. The Nouveau Classical Project, known for “bringing a refreshing edge” to classical music (VICE) was joined by conductor Whitney George, singers Ariadne Greif and Kacey Cardin, violinist Amanda Lo, and cellist Caleigh Drane. Robert Coover and Rick Moody read for this event.
About the Music
Taking from Rick Moody’s novel The Diviners, Felsenfeld fashioned The Light; the elegiac words of Elizabeth Hardwick are used in From Sleepless Nights; Robert Coover’s overtly ribald filth makes the text of Raw Footage; and Moody, Jonathan Lethem, Fiona Maazel and Stephen Elliott all provided unpublished texts for the cycle A Genuine Willingness to Help.
