Considered two of the most inventive writers today, Rachel Cusk and Domenico Starnone will discuss how the evolving relationship between reader and author has pushed form and structure into new and exciting directions.


Rachel Cusk's Outline trilogy, composed of Outline, Transit, and Kudos, merges fiction with oral history. Readers follow a British writer named Faye as she goes about her daily life and encounters a series of friends and strangers.


Domenico Starnone's most recent novel, Ties, was recently translated into English by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri. Ties is a powerful short novel about relationships, family, love, and the ineluctable consequences of one's actions.

RACHEL CUSK is the author of the Outline Trilogy: OutlineTransit, and Kudos; the memoirs A Life’s Work,The Last Supper and Aftermath; and several other novels. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. She lives in Norfolk, England.



DOMENICO STARNONE is an Italian writer, screenwriter and journalist. He was born in Naples and lives in Rome. He is the author of thirteen works of fiction, including First Execution (Europa, 2009), Via Gemito, winner of Italy's most prestigious literary prize, the Strega.
