n+1 presents Lightning Rods
Thursday September 8, 2011
Presented in partnership with acclaimed literary magazine n+1, this evening featured a dramatic reading of scenes from Helen DeWitt's new novel, Lightning Rods (New Directions). The novel is a satire of American sexual mores, corporate culture, and an elegant and outrageous version of the old Horatio Alger myth from one of our most ferociously intelligent and uncompromising novelists.
The reading was hosted by 2011 Shattuck Award winner Marco Roth with readers Elif Batuman (author of The Possessed) Gemma Sieff (Harper's) and Dushan Petrovich (Paper Monument) with special guest, Helen DeWitt.
Helen DeWitt is the author of The Last Samurai, which has been published in twenty languages. Her new novel, Lightning Rods, will be published in October by New Directions. She lives in Berlin.
Marco Roth is a co-founding editor of n+1 and the winner of The Center for Fiction's 2011 Roger Shattuck Prize for Criticism.
