Atticus Lish read from his debut novel, Preparation for the Next Life at this launch event, and discussed the work in conversation with writer Daniel Long.

About Preparation for the Next Life
Zou Lei, orphan of the desert, migrates to work in America and finds herself slaving in New York's kitchens. She falls in love with a young man whose heart has been broken in another desert. A new life may be possible if together they can survive homelessness, lockup, and the young man's nightmares, which may be more prophecy than madness.

Says Christopher Kennedy, "An illegal Chinese immigrant meets a broken American warrior, and the great love story of the 21st century begins."

Publishers Weekly adds, "every word feels necessary."

Atticus Lish lives in New York. His first book, a collection of illustrations, Life Is with People, was published by Tyrant Books. He works as a Chinese translator.

Daniel Long is an Oklahoman living in New York. His work has appeared in New York Tyrant and The Carolina Quarterly, among others. He was managing editor of The Fiddleback, an online journal of literature and art.
