About

Flatmancrooked publishes select books through their Launch program, which allows readers to buy “shares” in the work of a promising author. At this event, launch writers Emma Straub (Fly-Over State) and Shya Scanlon (Forecast) read short selections from their work and talked with Senior Editor Deena Drewis about Flatmancrooked’s unique model.

Emma Straub is the author of the novella Fly-Over State and the short story collection Other People We Married. Her writing has appeared in The Paris Review Daily, Juked, The Saint Ann's Review, Cousin Corinne's Reminder, and many other journals. Emma also works as a bookseller at BookCourt, one of New York City's finest independent bookstores. More information can be found at www.otherpeoplewemarried.com.

Shya Scanlon is the author of the poetry collection In This Alone Impulse (Noemi Press, 2010), and the novel Forecast (Flatmancrooked, 2010). He received his MFA from Brown University, where he was awarded the John Hawkes Prize in Fiction.

Deena Drewis is the Senior Editor of Flatmancrooked Publishing. She lives in Sacramento, California.
