Legendary author Elmore Leonard joined us for the first in our series of Master Classes as part of the new Crime Fiction Academy at The Center for Fiction. Leonard sat down with CFA director Jonathan Santlofer to discuss his writing and his new book Raylan, which brings back the mesmerizing hero of Pronto, Riding the Rap, and the hit FX series Justified.


Elmore Leonard has written forty-five books during his highly successful career, including the bestsellers Djibouti, Road Dogs, Mr. Paradise, Tishomingo Blues and the critically acclaimed collection of short stories, When the Women Come Out to Dance. Many of his books have been made into movies, including Get Shorty, Out of Sight, and Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. His television series Justified will begin its third season on FX in early 2012. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from PEN USA and the Grand Master Award of the Mystery Writers of America. He lives in Bloomfield Village, Michigan.
